Lego Birthday Cake

Hooray...it's time to party and the cake is ready!
We went with a Lego theme this year.  (no big surprise there!)
So a Lego cake it is...
The cake inside the colorful, lego inspired shell is my yummy, moist 3 ingredient cake.  I'll post the recipe later this week...so keep an eye out for it!
I filled the cake with cream cheese frosting and cherry preserves.
Three yummy layers!
After a crumb coat of cream cheese frosting, I covered the cake with green fondant.

The words on the top are made of actual legos on a green lego base.
I made twisted ropes with red and blue fondant and used them to frame the words.
I molded colorful chocolate lego bricks to decorate the base of the cake.
Chocolate lego minifigures adorn the sides and front of the cake.
I used a silicone mold to make these little men and painted their faces with gel food coloring and a toothpick.

The dude with sunglasses is cute...

but, Mr. Eyepatch is my favorite!
A cake  can't help being bright and fun when Legos are the theme.

  9. Thanks for all the kind words! The cake wasn't as much work as cleaning up the messes my little ones made while I was busy "playing legos." But it was totally worth it. My son loved it! And, it was super cute that some of his friends (8 year old boys) asked for the recipe!
