KCWC One Last Project

Well, the Kids Clothes Week Challenge is over, but I still have one more project to share.
Here is the Sunshiny Day dress that I designed.
Sunshiny Day Dress front
I combined my two favorite addictions, crochet and sewing, into one adorable dress.

Now I just need a model to try it on...
This definitely does not count...
OK, erase that last photo from your memory and we can move on...
I used a shell stitch for the bodice, and topped it with a little ruffle at the neckline.
The fabric was a bundle of fat quarters from JoAnn's that caught my eye.
It was awfully fun to make something girly...maybe my nieces need some new summer dresses???

KCWC: Day 5, 6 and 7

Sew many clothes, So little time...
On day 4 of the kids clothing week challenge, I sewed a version of the 90 minute shirt by Dana at Made.
I had two fabrics I was eyeing up for this shirt...one is a thin oatmeal slub knit and the other is an acid green soft knit from an old tank top.  Each is fabulous, but has an issue.  The oatmeal fabric has great texture, but it is completely see through.  The green is bright and bold and has that well-loved-but-not-worn-out softness, but had some small stains that were hard to avoid no matter how I laid out the pattern pieces.  So...
I used both fabrics.  The green to line the oatmeal, and the oatmeal to cover the stains.

I traced a fun chevron pattern onto the oatmeal, top-stitched it and made some fun cutouts that let the color shine through.  Now it reminds me a bit of Charlie Brown's shirt!
I finished it with purple banding around the neckline and sleeves, just for fun!
Zander tried it on, and then wouldn't take it off!  A new favorite...Yay!

On day 5, I started 2 pairs of coordinating linen shorts.

I modified New Look pattern #0153 to include a panel of patchwork cotton prints.  Avery's have blue details and Zander's have green (their signature colors for a super quick which-twin-is-which ID).
Both feature a beautiful blue, green and orange organic cotton by  Monaluna called "peacock feathers."

On day 6, I finished up the shorts and started working on a dress.  Yes, I said a dress.  Every once in a while, I have to make something girly.

On day 7, after an emergency vet visit with one of the dogs, a soccer game, a little league game, and a birthday party for a 3 year old friend, I worked on the dress.  As of this posting, it isn't finished, but the night isn't over...and everyone is tucked in and sleeping...
It's too dark for any good photos...so I promise photos of the dress or at least some "in progress" photos tomorrow :-)

You can see all of the fabulous children's clothes people have been sewing for the kids clothes week challenge on  flickr.

Kids Clothes Week Challenge - Day 4

Yesterday I made this little knit shirt for the KCWC at elsie marley.

It is an modified version of Simplicity 2318.  I made it short sleeved (rather than sleeveless or long sleeves), I altered the shape of the pocket, and I added some extra stitching around the shoulders and sleeves.
It goes great with the Scooter Long Shorts!  And it has a pocket...
Hooray!
Avery had lots of fun jumping...
and pulling leaves off of my plants...
until it started raining (again).
Today I'm working on a top inspired by Made's 90 minute shirt

KCWC: Day 2

Sew, sew, sew your shorts...

On day 1 of the Kids Clothes Week Challenge, I made these Scooter Long Shorts.
They took a bit longer than an hour, but A & Z had a nice long nap and I frayed the hem while watching SMASH, so it all worked out!

More on the construction of these later.  I have lots to share, but if I'm typing, I'm not sewing - and I need two pairs of shorts for my pair of toddlers.
Photo session fun...
Photo session done!
