Sewing for Good: Project Yesu Pillowcase Dress Drive

While hopping around the internet, I came across Project Yesu, a charitable organization dedicated to providing food, medicine and education to children in poverty stricken Uganda.  It was founded by an amazing young lady named Mallory whose heart is as big as her ideas.
Mallory is currently collecting pillowcase dresses to bring to girls in need when she visits Uganda this summer.
If you would like to participate and make a dress, you can mail it to:

Project Yesu
c/o Rory Fundora
1178 Willow Bend Drive
Clarksville, TN 37043

All completed dresses must be received by May 31!
All sizes are needed and you can use any fabric or pattern that you like.

Read more about the pillowcase drive here.

Here's my first dress to donate...
It may be a simple looking dress, but it carries with it grand wishes for a healthy, happy future.  I hope it brings a smile and some hope to a little girl who's far away on a map, but feels close in my heart.
Maybe you can send one, too?

    1. Yay! Pillowcase dresses are the perfect beginner sewing project. Straight lines, no complicated patterns and they come out so cute! Good luck!

  4. I'm starting mine tonight!!! I took donations of fabric from fellow sewers and friends who wanted to help. I should have 10-12 done in time to mail to Mallory!! So excited to be a part of this!

    1. Hooray!!! Thanks for helping out...it is exciting to be able to create something will go to such good use!

  5. I am working on this too! We are actually doing peasant dresses instead, but I have a group of women who come over and sew dresses with me. So far we have 17 finished, but my goal is 40. I actually planned on blogging about it tomorrow. :) Your dress looks beautiful! Great job!!

    1. Wow! Great work and an ambitious goal! What fun to have a sewing party too! I'll be sure to drop by your blog and check it out!

  6. We worked on a similar project last summer for Little Dresses for Africa. You may want to see my easy tutorial on how to make these dresses. It lends well to a group or working solo.
