Free Crochet Pattern and Giveaway

Pretty Baby Valentine Bonnet
Today, I'd like to share this sweet little bonnet pattern with you and
give you a chance to win the newborn size bonnet that I hand crocheted!
I've been working on some new hats for my etsy shop
and it seems I've gone a bit bonnet crazy.
I have one new baby boy beanie to introduce soon, but most of my new creations are bonnets.  There's just something about the way they frame a sweet baby face that I'm finding irresistible.  Bonnets are perfect for newborn portraits, Christenings and Blessings, Easter, or any other special occasion!  I have a few new designs...delicate lacy ones for baby girls and simple textured ones for baby boys, there are even a few with unexpected pops of color!  I will also have some special one-of-a-kind hats available!
Here's a little sneak peek of one of my favorites....

The bonnet pattern I'm sharing today is a bit more casual and works up really fast.
I was thinking of Valentine's day when I made this one, so I used a white cotton blend yarn and a red and white ribbon.  I finished it off with a cute little heart.
This same pattern could be used with any color yarn or ribbon to make a bonnet for whatever occasion you choose.  You could leave the heart off or even replace it with your favorite crocheted flower.
It's a pretty basic pattern so mix it up and have fun with it!
(Just remember to always supervise a baby wearing a hat that has strings)
On to the good stuff...

First...Enter the giveaway...

Good Luck!

  1. I was breezing along, loving your pattern, till I hit row 12. Could you please explain that row again? I don't understand where the 2tr together came from. I don't have those. I have baubles, chains, and trebles.
    Lovely hat! Nice for Easter.

  2. Hi Kathy, thanks for catching that...when I initially wrote out the pattern I hadn't defined the "bauble", I was just considering it (2tr tog, ch, 2tr tog), so in my first draft row 12 made sense...then when I wrote it here, I changed it in row 11 but forgot to update row 12, sorry. I think I've fixed in now (but I haven't actually taken hook to yarn yet to be sure). I hope it is more clear now. Let me know how it works for you!

  3. Hi Carolyn!
I must say that the bonnet is absolutely adorable! I am not much into "hat" knitting or crocheting (that's my sister's department)although last week I started a beret :)

  16. I'm doing all four, but only leaving one comment because I don't have or know of anyone with a newborn but wanted to let you know love your bonnet. It's so sweet and if I ever have another baby and it's a little girl I will be sure to snap one up. Since my girly is older, this one caught my eye: http://www.etsy.com/listing/87780545/chunky-beanie-beret-child-5-12-years?

  28. For row 11, should there be a ch after the tr? before you skip the next stitch to do another bauble.
    Super cute bonnet!!

    1. Hi, Thanks for trying out the pattern! I think the spacing works out just right as written. But, if you want to add a ch after the tr so that you end up with a ch on both sides of the baubles you can, just be to skip those added chains in row 12 (don't sc into them) or in your last row the scallops won't be placed properly. Hope this is helpful!

  37. What terms are you using?
    Tr? Is that UK treble

    Replies
    1. Hi, they are US terms. So the US tr = UK double treble (dtr).

  39. Hello :-) Firstly thank you for this pattern :-)
I think I've done it correct but now I'm stuck on row12.
I'm not sure where about to SC (would the first one go in the 1st Tr?)
And which part of the bauble to go through for 2nd SC stitch or the next for that matter?
I'm probably being silly but am new to this, any help will be appreciated
    Thank you
    Sammy A :-) x

  46. Hello there!
I just came across your lovely grey bonnet with the white roses and fell in love! Is there a separate pattern for that bonnet or was it made using the free valentine pattern?

    Thanks so much!
